The last time these two teams met, Northland was on the wrong end of a 29-0 shutout against Wellington.
And Wellington became just the fourth team in National Provincial Championship history since 1976 to keep two teams scoreless in a row.
They opened the scoring in the fourth minute in the Cake Tin after a midfield scrum saw No. 8 Victor Vito feed the ball to Jonny Bentley on the left. He linked with centre Matt Proctor, who slipped a kick through and left wing Wes Goosen chased hard to take advantage of a favourable bounce to score.
A similar sort of move in the 22nd minute was worked to the right instead and good hands from flanker Ardie Savea and fullback Cory Jane provided time and space for right wing Joe Hill to score wide out.
Northland had struggled to make any sort of impact in the first half.
Wellington went to half-time with a 17-0 lead and built on that with a try within a minute of the re-start after a Northland mistake.
Wellington scored again from a lineout close to Northland's tryline, late in the game, to emerge winners 29-0.
