Te Hiku o Te Ika Conservation Board says a new strategy being developed by the iwi and Department of Conservation (DoC) will create 2000-3000 jobs for Northlanders.
Te Hiku Conservation Board co-chairman Rangitane Marsden (NgāiTakoto) said the strategy would increase conservation job and education opportunities for locals and open up iwi land people never had access to before.
"We want to showcase the environmental successes of iwi and give people unique ecotourism experiences.
"We want to get people off the main highways and make them realise there's more than just the lighthouse at the cape."
Mr Marsden said the Te Hiku Conservation Management Strategy (CMS) was also a way to tackle Northland's huge unemployment problem.
