A Northland petrol station has been ordered to pay more than $28,500 for serious breaches of employment law, including underpaying wages and holiday pay to four employees.
The Ministry of Business, Employment and Innovation started an investigation into IXL Petroleum and Gas, trading as G.A.S franchise on State Highway 1 in Ruakaka, and the matter ended up in the Employment Relations Authority (ERA). IXL Petroleum and Gas has Homai Noshir Elavia listed as its sole director.
The investigation revealed the company breached its obligation to pay at least the minimum wage, correct holiday pay, and made unlawful deductions.
An employee was paid for 20 hours a week despite the company's record that showed the staff member worked significantly longer hours.
Another employee complained about being charged for customer petrol drive offs and the company sought a premium in exchange for supporting his visa.
