The High Court at Whangarei has refused electronically-monitored bail to a Northland man accused of killing a relative. Jason Heihei, 30, is accused of stabbing 29-year-old Corey Heihei at a Pukepoto Rd house in Kaitaia on July 23 last year.

Police said despite receiving medical attention, the victim died at the scene. Heihei was remanded back in custody and a date for his next court appearance is yet to be set.

The 53-year-old man rang his partner and explained he did not know where he was and in turn she alerted police. It took police an hour and half to find the man who had gone off the track and ended up down a ridge in dense bush. He was able to provide police with GPS coordinates and they walked out safely just before 6pm.
