A fatal car crash over the weekend has raised the number of people who have died on Northland roads this year rise higher than last year's total road toll.
A man was killed in a crash on Kokopu Rd, west of Whangarei, after the car he was driving went off the road and slammed into a post at about 2.10am on Saturday.
He was the sole occupant of the car.
A fire communications spokesman said crews from Kamo, Ruakaka and Whangarei were called to the scene near Attwood Rd.
The crash, which is being investigated by the Serious Crash Unit, follows two fatal car accidents the previous weekend.
