More than 1300 submissions have been received on a proposal to set up a marine reserve in the Bay of Islands with a large majority in favour of the plan.
However, the proposal by community group Fish Forever is also opposed by some, in particular recreational fishers and iwi.
The plan, announced in May, includes two no-take areas totalling 1900ha or about 6 per cent of the Bay's waters.
One area is centred on Waewaetorea and Okahu islands, north and west of Urupukapuka. The other is next to Maunganui Bay where a fishing rahui already applies. It also proposes a wetland scientific reserve at Tangatapu in Parekura Bay.
Fish Forever has now released a report summarising the 1349 submissions received.
