It was a trouble-free weekend along Northland's east coast as a strong presence of volunteer lifeguards ensured beachgoers were well-behaved.
No rescues or incidents were reported from beaches at Mangawhai, Waipu and Whangarei Heads throughout the weekend as people thronged to their favourite spots, especially yesterday.
Rain kept many away from beaches on Saturday but that changed as sunny weather returned yesterday.
About 300 flocked to Mangawhai and that number is likely to be maintained leading up to the New Year.
Patrol captain Simon Dobrowolski said no issues were reported as everyone swam between the flags.
