A Northland repeat drink-driver has lost her licence indefinitely after she was found to be over the legal limit after drinking the previous night.
Theresa Nellie PANAPA, 39, appeared in the Kaikohe District Court for sentencing on a charge of driving with an excess breath-alcohol level for a third or subsequent time after being stopped on State Highway 11, Kawakawa, at 8.20am on December 29 last year.
The police summary of facts to the court said Panapa was stopped for a compulsory breath test and she admitted drinking alcohol the previous evening. The test showed a level of 595 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath. The legal limit is 400mcg.
In explanation Panapa told officers she had consumed alcohol the previous night and did not think it would still be in her body the next morning.
She was sentenced to 120 hours' community work, 12 months' supervision and disqualified from driving indefinitely for her third drink-driving conviction.
