Whangarei's Rupert D'Ath was so drunk he couldn't even blow into a roadside breath testing machine.
The 30-year-old repeat drink-driver was unable to get out of his car or stand and walk when stopped, police said.
He appeared for sentencing in the Whangarei District Court on Tuesday after pleading guilty to charges of driving under the influence of drink or drugs and being forbidden to drive.
D'Ath was stopped by police at Auckland Airport on November 26, 2010 and forbidden to drive. He was told of the consequences if he was caught driving again as he had two previous drink-driving convictions.
The first conviction was in the Whangarei District Court on August 4, 2008 when he was disqualified from driving for one year. He had also been convicted on August 23, 2001 and banned from driving for six months.
