Pair charged in stabbing
A 35-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman have been charged in relation to a stabbing in Kerikeri on Thursday afternoon. A 30-year-old man was stabbed in the chest outside the Work and Income office in Fairburn St. The pair have been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and with drug-related charges. They will appear in the Kaikohe District Court on August 2.
Designer for Paihia
A competition to redesign Paihia has reached its second phase, with the results of June's community design process now on-line at www.paihianz.co.nz. Focus Paihia now plans to appoint a professional designer to develop some draft designs based on community feedback over the past two years. The trust is calling for expressions of interest from designers.
Car damaged
A car parked in the Parenga St carpark in Dargaville was broken into and damaged. Sergeant Maria Nordstrom said sometime between 9am and 5pm on Thursday, the rear right hand window of a 199 blue Suburu Legacy was pulled open by the offender/s. The vehicle was rummaged through and the ignition broken, but nothing was taken. Contact police on 439 3400 with any information.
Driver suspended
A 22-year-old Dargaville man was suspended from driving after he was caught driving with excessive demerit points. Checks made during a random stop on Monday night revealed the man had incurred 220 demerit points.
Fleeing car hits 160km/h
Dargaville police are asking for reports of any public sightings of a black commodore car, registration FFN841, which was involved in a police pursuit. Police said the vehicle had been randomly stopped on SH12 just south of Ruawai College at about 1pm on Tuesday. The car sped off reaching speeds in excess of 160km/h on the open highway.
Driver serious after crash
A motorist is in a serious condition after a vehicle crashed and burst into flames in Northland yesterday at about 4.45pm. Emergency services were at the scene on State Highway 1 in the Dome Valley, between Wellsford and Warkworth.
