A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck near the Kermadec Islands, northeast of the North Island, early this morning.
GNS Science said the 300km-deep quake, centred 380km south of Macauley Island, struck at 1.06am.
It was possibly felt in the North Island.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre did not immediately issue an alert, AFP reported.
