New Zealand's richest man, Douglas Myers, has sold his share of a Tahitian island to an anonymous San Diego resident in a $US3 million ($6.8 million) deal.
Mr Myers, chairman of Lion Nathan, was joint owner with a Norwegian business associate of Motu Tiano island, 40 minutes by light aircraft from Tahiti's capital, Papeete.
Northland real estate agent Allan Myers, of Blaze Realty in Mangonui, who was involved with the deal, has confirmed that the island was sold in October.
However, Allan Myers - no relation to Douglas - said the Privacy Act precluded his discussing the matter any further.
The 8.3ha island was the private getaway and holiday home of the Myers family, who have entertained extensively there. Guests have included singer Diana Ross.
The architecturally designed mansion with a tropical Tahitian theme was the brainchild of a top French architect in Papeete, but built in local style and materials.
The main lounge area has a high-pitched roof and exposed wood beams. The main house has four bedrooms.
The island has been extensively planted with tropical trees and shrubs in the past 20 years. It has a private pontoon stretching into the sea, with its own roofed dining area.
The island getaway features in a glossy colour spread in the January issue of lifestyle magazine New Zealand House and Garden, which includes an interview with Douglas Myers' wife, Barbara.
