ComputerLand chief executive Russell Hewitt has landed one of the country's top IT industry jobs - as managing director of Compaq Computer New Zealand.
He replaces Robin Paterson, who is on extended leave for health reasons and will take a new role in the management team when he returns.
Compaq South Pacific vice-president Ian Penman said that over the past decade Mr Hewitt had built ComputerLand into one of the country's top IT companies.
Before that he worked for IBM, rising to become national channel partner marketing manager.
Mr Hewitt said the job was a great opportunity personally, and ComputerLand was also ready for a change.
"It's like being the coach of a high-performance team for 10 years: it's been great, but it's time to be going.
"I've been working with Compaq the whole time at ComputerLand, even before they had an office here, and I feel I've been on the ground floor."
Compaq New Zealand has a staff of 350 and turnover of $250 million, compared with ComputerLand's 400 staff and $120 million turnover.
