Whanganui Mayor Hamish McDouall will travel to Taipei next month to speak at a mayoral forum with the tab being picked up by event organisers.
The forum is part of the Smart City Summit and Expo held in the Taiwanese capital which looks at sustainable development and solving urban issues.
Mr McDouall said he would talk about Whanganui's work with the Intelligent Communities Forum and use of digital infrastructure in economic growth and increasing democracy.
The four-day expo starts on March 27.
Mr McDouall was offered the all-expenses paid trip when he met representatives of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office along with the Whanganui Chamber of Commerce last month to discuss similar issues.
