After spending nearly a week in hospital Ayden was discharged late yesterday morning.
His mother, Lisa Kairau, said she was pleased to have her son home but wanted the people responsible to be caught as soon as possible.
"It's such a relief, he's perked up since we got home."
She had heard rumours about who the attackers were but this hadn't been confirmed and anyone who could help should go to the police, Ms Kairau said.
She was still haunted by what had happened and what her son still had to go through.
"[Ayden's] a lot stronger than me about this.
"I'm getting there but I think I'll be happy when they are caught."
The teenager had stitches on the outside of his lip removed yesterday and other stitches inside his mouth will dissolve.
He can now open his eyes but he has had a brain injury so has memory loss and gets bad headaches, she said.
It is not certain if he will make a full recovery and he will need to see a specialist for his head injury as well as for his fractured nose to see if he will need surgery and his jaw which he can't open properly.
"He still not eating solids.
"When we got out of hospital he had to wear sunglasses, he got a really bad headache just from leaving the hospital to getting home."
Because of his brain injury he is not allowed to look at screens or watch television for a week and he can't concentrate on reading so he is getting a bit bored, she said.
Ayden cannot remember anything from the attack but he was conscious for at least some of it because the injuries were consistent with him being curled in a foetal position to protect himself, Ms Kairau said.
A police spokesperson said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Ayden was found after neighbours and guests at the party he had attended heard noises from the park and investigated.
On arrival they saw three people standing over him who quickly left the scene.
