This year's Horse of the Year event made a pleasing $28,000 profit, says board chairwoman Cynthia Bowers.
The accredited financials was filed with the shareholders on Friday, and has put the event in a much stronger position than it was at this time last year, Ms Bowers said.
"It means we are in a strong position to move forward to next year's show, there will always be challenges, but given the weather this year it's an awesome result.
"It just goes to show this event has a lot of potential and that we are on the right track."
Meanwhile at this week's Hastings District Council meeting, councillors agreed to seek to appoint a second director to the Horse of the Year (Hawke's Bay) (HOYHB) board, in line with the other shareholders who have decided to take up the option.
The council holds a third share in HOYHB, along with Equestrian Sport New Zealand (ESNZ) and Show Jumping Hawke's Bay (SJHB).
Although each entity had until now only appointed one director each to the board, they were entitled to have two each, and in June this year ESNZ advised it would like to appoint an additional director and SJHB followed suit.
At this week's full meeting, the Hastings District Council agreed that it too would take up the opportunity to increase its representation on the board and set up a panel to consider who would be appointed.
Given the $170,000 investment the council made last year on top of the $30,000 each shareholder contributed at the company's inception, the council's chief financial officer Bruce Allan said it was important that the council was fairly represented.
In discussing who would be on the appointment panel, councillor Tania Kerr suggested it would be a good idea to have an independent member of the panel along with herself and Mr Allen.
"I would like the third person to be someone who has experience with boards and who can help us identify any skill gaps in the existing board," Ms Kerr said.
The council agreed to direct council chief executive Ross McLeod to come back with suggestions of some contenders to fill the position.
In the meantime the independent director position on the board was vacant following the resignation of Michael Whittaker on July 21 this year.
The SJHB directors were William Moffett and Dirk Waldon, Vicki Glynn and Donald Robertson represented ESNZ and CHB district councillor Tim Aitken was the Hastings council appointment.
All directors on the board were unpaid, except for the chairperson.
