As the 2018 event directors Mr Mills and Ms Buttle are already planning and marketing Triple Peaks.
"Our intention is to build on the strength of the event that David has established over the last 11 years. We are honoured to take the baton, and build on the solid foundations already in place, as well as introduce some of our own fresh new ideas,' Mr Mills said.
Ms Buttle has worked in marketing and event management for the last14 years and Mr Mills volunteered for a range of local sports clubs, as well as being a qualified mountain biking official commissaire at national events.
"Between us, we have the skills, knowledge, ideas and network to make this a very successful event for the region,
"We want to keep the local flavour and ensure that Triple Peaks brings far-reaching economic and social benefits to the community. It is very important to us that it is truly a local event," Ms Buttle said.
While much of the event would retain its rugged and adventurous nature, a few key changes were flagged to be taking place in 2018.
MCL Construction had come on as the principal sponsor for Triple Peaks; a great fit as both entities were strong local brands reflecting quality and integrity, Ms Buttle said.
Mr Mills said fundraising for the Te Mata Park was the primary goal for the event, with funds going towards tail maintenance, establishing new tracks and other growth initiatives.
"We both feel a great connection to Te Mata Peak, and are delighted that we are able to fundraise for this outstanding place of significance in Hawke's Bay."
Te Mata Park Trust chairman Mike Devonshire said he anticipated a great response to next year's event.
"As Te Mata Park is the home turf of Triple Peaks, it is pleasing to see the funds raised will go straight back to the land on which we love to run, walk and bike,
"Te Mata Park is a place of great local significance for many people. The funds raised will go a long way in facilitating many of the projects in the years ahead."
