A local food rescue project has gone from strength to strength in a matter of months thanks to the generosity of the very community it supports.
Nourished for Nil moved into to an unused Tremains building on Karamu Rd yesterday after redistributing food from Landmarks Square in Hastings since the project was founded in February.
Humbled by the generosity of prominent businessman Simon Tremain, Nourished for Nil co-founder Christina McBeth said she was elated the project had received six months of free rent for the indoors venue.
"It's been great and everyone is so amped and in a good space. We're really excited."
Ms McBeth said she had been "shocked" by the number of landlords who had slammed the door in their faces while they hunted for an indoors space, but added they had taken the rejection in their stride and kept looking.
