More than 200 motorcyclists donated $2200 to the Napier RSA and Clubs Hastings yesterday after taking part in the Ride of Respect, a fundraising event held on the Sunday before Anzac Day every year.
The Hawke's Bay branch of the Social Cruizers NZ motorcycle club invited the RSAs to be part of the event that was a great success, said Napier RSA assistant club manager Dorothy Paki.
Social Cruizers member Theresa Sands said that the ride is held in regions around the country, the goal being to involve as many motorbikers a possible from Auckland to the bottom of the South Island.
Each participant paid $10 to take part, which was then donated to RSA clubs.
She said she was overwhelmed by the support for yesterday's ride that went from Napier RSA to the Waipukurau cenotaph and back to Clubs Hastings, and attracted people from Palmerston North, Auckland and the Coromandel.
