A season with no drownings between the flags is being celebrated by surf lifesaving clubs in Hawke's Bay, and across the country.
With Easter traditionally marking the end of the patrol season, Surf Life Saving New Zealand is praising its volunteer lifeguards as the season draws to an end with no drownings between the flags.
Westshore Surf Life Saving Club director of lifeguarding Brian Quirk said this was always the aim for them.
Although there had been a couple of rescues at Westshore, overall it had been a "pretty good season".
"It certainly helps that the crowds have been good, and we've been lucky that there hasn't been a heavy surf," he said.
