Two Hawke's Bay-centred earthquakes over 4.0 magnitude were recorded during the weekend.
The first of 4.2 magnitude was centred 30kms north of Wairoa in Northern Hawke's Bay and at a depth of 32kms at 9.22am on Saturday, with four reports of "extreme" intensity to seismological agency GeoNet, and the second of 4.5 magnitude almost 24 hours later and centred 20kms northeast of Pongaroa and at a depth of 29kms.
It was reported to have been felt from Napier to Wellington and west to at least Waiouru.
It was one of more than 20 shakes of over 2.0 magnitude throughout the country on Saturday up to 7pm yesterday, most of them in the North Canterbury area still recoiling from the 7.8 magnitude Kaikoura earthquake on November 14 last year.
