Mr Morris's highly distinguished equestrian career spanned 50-plus years and he was now regarded as one of New Zealand's most knowledgeable and dedicated showjumping officials.
He was also the youngest to gain international FEI level 3 showjumping judge status.
Equestrian Sports New Zealand technical delegate Ross Coles, who has known Mr Morris for 20-odd years, paid tribute to his good friend.
"It is absolutely well deserved," Mr Coles said.
"He has dedicated his life to that."
Last year's inductee Bill Noble handed the award over and said it was a real honour.
"I have been involved with this event for many years and it is one you can't fail no matter how your horse goes. I have never seen a show like it, it is crazy and unique in terms of sheer life," Mr Noble said.
This popular event was changed from a formal dinner last year to a cocktail party and HOY event director Dave Mee said it had gone down very well.
"We are pleased with the evening and it has become a highlight of the show. It is fantastic to see the amount of people here enjoying themselves."
Looking forward to the next few days Mr Mee was hoping the rain would hold off and the exceptional action would continue.
He said the eventing and cross country was looking exciting as well as finals day on Sunday with the prestigious Olympic Cup.
Chairwoman Cynthia Bowers was also thrilled with how the show had gone so far.
"The rain has stayed away making for a really good track. The entries succeeded last year and the number of trades is the most we have had so it has been really good."
She was continuing to watch the weather closely heading in to the weekend.
"It is shaping up to be a great event and I am looking forward to the next few days of the show."
Mr Morris now joins 15 other equestrian greats who have previously been inducted into the Hall of Fame over recent years.
His name will be added to the Hall of Fame Honour's Board which hangs at the Hastings District Council.
Craig Booth, also from Masterton, received the David Ross Memorial Award for his outstanding volunteer service to the Horse of the Year Show.
It is an award given to a HOY volunteer who encapsulates the true spirit of HOY.
Mr Booth heads the grounds committee and helps ensure the best of footing possible for horses at many events. He is also president of the Wairarapa Area Showjumping and Show Hunter Group.
"Well this is unexpected," Mr Booth said.
"I do it for the love of the horse - we prepare the grounds for everyone to have a good time and for the horses to go home sound."
