Roading contractors working across the Hawke's Bay highways network are pushing to make up for time lost last week when steady rain hit the region for two days.
"Our primary focus is to complete all works on SH2 and SH5 early enough to avoid the in-coming traffic for this week's Art Deco festivities in the Bay," New Zealand Transport Agency Napier journey manager Oliver Postings said.
"We are continuing our resealing activities on these parts of the region and aim to be off site by the end of the week."
Resealing is being carried out along sections of SH5 between Te Pohue and Tarawera as well as at sites between Wairoa and Nuhaka, while repainting of road markings is under way on stretches of SH2 north.
Mr Postings said the work was scheduled to be wrapped up last week but was "heavily disrupted" by the much-needed rain.
