Napier Mayor Bill Dalton has long been passionate about the colour and appeal of Art Deco, and as he has in past years, will be out there embracing it - especially the vintage cars as he is a tad fond of things of a motoring nature.
"I am prouder than ever to support this iconic festival in 2017."
Mr Dalton donned the boater and blazer to answer five questions from the not quite as dapper press chap Roger Moroney.
1. Having grown up here, when did you first realise this city had something unique about it, building-wise?
My father was a solid plasterer and worked on many of the buildings so I was always aware of just how special Napier is.
2. Must be a great feeling to see so many happy faces out there during the festival - do you get plenty of feedback from visitors?
We get an incredible amount of feedback from locals and visitors alike. It is really gratifying.
I truly believe our city never looks prettier than it does when masses flood through our gateways.
3. You've travelled a bit - is this festival now truly world-class in terms of events and organisation?
The Art Deco Festival is now right up there among the best festivals in the world. Every aspect from the planning to the delivery is world class.
The Art Deco Trust does an outstanding job of readying Napier for the huge influx of visitors we see here during the event.
4. So many people are involved in making this happen - what do you say to them?
Napier owes a huge debt of gratitude to everyone from Robert McGregor on who have built the festival.
The work that goes into delivering this iconic treat is often overlooked. It is a huge job.
5. Have you got a favourite event - and are the deco outfits all ironed and ready to go?
I don't have a particular favourite event but anything to do with the vintage vehicles is a must do for me.
I'm very excited about all the vintage car events. (Mr Dalton will be driving about in his smart 1928 Ford Model A pick-up) I find just being in the city and soaking up the atmosphere really enjoyable.
