The cyclist was taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital in a serious condition, with "fairly serious leg injuries".
Yesterday afternoon a Hawke's Bay District Health Board spokeswoman said the cyclist, a man in his 50s, was in a critical condition.
Emergency services also responded to a car crash in Central Hawke's Bay yesterday afternoon where a person was cut from a car that rolled.
The man was flown to Hawke's Bay Hospital in Hastings after being cut from the vehicle which rolled in Nicholls Rd in the rural area between Porangahau Rd and State Highway 2, south of Waipukurau.
Fire Service shift manager Mike Wanoa said the emergency services called around 12.40pm included the Waipukurau Volunteer Brigade, which had to cut the vehicle open to free a person thought to be seriously injured.
The man was understood to have been removed about 1.30pm and was flown to Hastings by the Lowe Corporation Hawke's Bay Rescue Helicopter Service.
A Middlemore Hospital representative has also said the victim of a recent hit-and-run incident, Louis Keil, is still in a serious but stable condition in the intensive care unit.
Napier resident Mr Keil received serious injuries when he was struck while riding a bike in Waterworth Ave, Onekawa South, on Friday morning.
Police in Hawke's Bay are investigating the incident and want to speak to the person who seemed to help Mr Keil at the time.
"We believe a vehicle stopped to offer help to the man on the road and moved the bike to the footpath in the process. I'm asking that person to come forward and speak to us," Detective Sergeant Darren Pritchard said.
Police are still looking for Jamie Lesley Jones, 31, who was alleged to have been driving the car.
Mr Pritchard also asked that anyone with information on Jones' whereabouts come forward.
- Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Jamie Jones is asked to contact Hawkes Bay Police on (06) 831 0700 or report anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
