Spirits will be as damp as the McLean Park outfield as fans await the start of the Second One Day International between the Black Caps and Pakistan in Napier today.

Play was scheduled to begin at 2pm but persistent rain has forced umpires to postpone the toss.

Cricinfo said another pitch inspection will take place at 5.30pm weather permitting.

A final decision on a reduced game will be made at about 7pm.

New Zealand currently hold a 1-0 lead in the three match series.
