A Hawke's Bay-sparked petition urging police to consult the public before making changes to community policing has gathered 3000 signatures across the wider Clive and Haumoana districts, and is set to move into Havelock North.
The petition was started a month ago after the formation of the five-strong Hawke's Bay Collective led by Clive resident Ted Tobeck and Labour spokeswoman for Tukituki Anna Lorck.
She said concern had been growing that community policing was on the decline, in the wake of the Clive community constable not being replaced.
Signature gatherers had gone door to door in Clive and Haumoana with several shops also putting them out, and Ms Lorck said the result was overwhelming in that people were making it clear they wanted police to talk to communities before making changes.
She praised the determination of the volunteers who went signature seeking, with Mr Tobeck completing a 10km stint as part of his "patch".
