For six prospective open water swimmers the first of nine planned Napier Port Ocean Swim training sessions staged last Wednesday at Pandora Pond went swimmingly well.
The training sessions, which are free of charge, will continue to be held every Wednesday between 5.30pm and 6.30pm at the pond as a preparation build-up for the big ocean swim event off the Perfume Point Reserve Rd on March 21.
Napier Port Ocean Swim event manager Trevor Adsett said the training sessions were for people new to ocean swimming and were aimed at building up confidence as well as providing tips on how to stay on course and "out of trouble".
He said he hoped the free sessions would encourage athletes and swimmers to "give ocean swimming a go" and was pleased that six locals wanting to do just that turned up last Wednesday.
"I am expecting more people to come along as the big day draws closer ... " he said.
