Three of next year's Tremains Art Deco Weekend sponsors are set to go head to head for their own individual slice of the big event.
The Soap Box Derby, the dash down Tennyson St on the Sunday of the celebratory weekend, will feature some extra competitive spice as Tremains, Gemco Construction and Trades and Brebner Print will stage their own race within a race - each aiming to get the better of the other two in pursuit of a trophy they have come up with.
Leading the charge is the crew from Tremains. Its managing director Simon Tremain was not mincing words about what he was expecting his crew to come up with. A duel with the Gemco trolley last year failed to happen. "We had some preparation issues but I can assure you, we will be more than ready this time," he said.
Mr Tremain was out of town for last year's event but will be well involved in the February event.
"And it's not about 'if' we win it's 'when' we win," he said.
"We are building the car now - in a private cave and I'm not going to disclose any of our design secrets."
He said it was like any F1 team gearing up early for the next season. "The three 'Ps - prior preparation equals performance."
