Renowned sculptor James Wright commemorated the memory of his dear friend Sir Paul Holmes by gifting a one of a kind statue to the Hawke's Bay Hospital Soldiers' Memorial Garden yesterday afternoon.
The 1.8 metre statue Story Teller was unveiled in front of an intimate crowd of 10, with Lady Deborah Holmes as the guest of honour.
Mr Wright says his relationship with the late broadcaster began in 2002, when he was commissioned by Sir Paul to create a one-of-a-kind piece for his Hawke's Bay homestead Mana Lodge.
Mr Wright then went on to create a further three sculptures for Sir Paul, who passed away on February 1, 2013.
He said the corten steel laced with bronze statue is inspired by Sir Paul's warm and outgoing personality.
