"But I still pedal because I am a woman and can do five things at once."
Taking part in the 6km iWay Family Fun Pathway Ride meant little training was needed, though she hoped to do a run through of the course today in preparation.
Getting on a stationary bicycle for a workout helped to keep her fitness levels up - though the skill of riding a bike had never left her.
"It's still in my blood. I was one of The Hub cycling crew from way back, but these days I only cycle 1km not 170km," she laughed.
Having limited sight meant Ms Wilson-Blackbourn was unable to do a lot of everyday tasks on her own and relied on others to help, though she has recently applied for a Guide Dog to bring back some of her independence.
"I won't be looking at the ground so I can look up at the world.
"I don't think it would help with Tour of the Bay though, they say [dogs] can drive but I don't think they can cycle."
She will be hiring a tandem bike from the appropriately named Tandem cafe in Havelock North especially for the event.
While the MetService forecast was for showers and a high of 16C tomorrow, organisers were hoping for the best.
"The event will go ahead regardless, but if it rains we will hold the prizegiving indoors," event director Jo Munialo said.
With online entries closed to all the major events yesterday afternoon, it looked as though numbers would be up on last year.
"We hope more people will turn up to register for the 6km on the day".
