An emergency siren test in Napier went off well with all 17 alarms operating without a hitch.
Napier's Emergency Management Officer Marcus Hayes-Jones was more than satisfied with Friday's test as it included the latest addition to the siren sites - the newest one having been set up in Battery Rd, Ahuriri.
As part of the test, Mr Hayes-Jones also organised Exercise Max Out - a joint exercise between Napier Intermediate School and Napier Civil Defence volunteers.
They established a Civil Defence Centre and tested the Government's online Emergency Management Information System registration component for half an hour around the emergency tests, with the assistance of the principal, teachers and students of the school.
When the sirens were activated the school practised a tsunami evacuation up Napier hill and then on their way back to school was diverted into the CD Centre to be registered.
