A 47-year-old Waipukurau man appeared in court yesterday after allegedly kidnapping, assaulting and raping a woman.
A Napier District Court jury will decide if Robert Craig Winterburn is guilty of four counts of assault, four counts of threatening to kill, kidnapping, commission of a crime with a firearm, sexual violation, rape and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Crown prosecutor Jo Reilly said, in her opening address, Winterburn first met the woman in 2013.
She said the pair were both "regularly" under the influence of drugs and Winterburn would grow paranoid that the woman was "with another man".
The crown also allege Winterburn kidnapped the woman between April 17 and 19, 2013 - and took her on a car ride with two loaded guns held to her head and stomach as they drove around Central Hawke's Bay and Hastings.
