A large scrub fire broke out at the edge of the Hawke's Bay expressway yesterday afternoon, blocking traffic while firefighters worked to contain it.
Fire services were called to the blaze at 3.30pm, and it was contained by about 5pm without any reports of damage to nearby homes. A total of eight appliances attended the blaze, including three tankers, four pumps and a rural fire unit.
A large amount of smoke from the fire also covered the road, causing traffic disruptions, and police were required to control traffic. The fire was located along the edge of the expressway between Pakowhai Rd and Meeanee Rd.
