A day after secondary school principals accepted a new collective contract, high school teachers will today resume contract discussions which are expected to cause some disruption to classes.
Members of the Post Primary Teachers Association (PPTA) today begin three days of paid union meetings ahead of next Monday's resumption of contract talks with the Ministry of Education which broke down late last year.
During this week's meetings, teachers will vote on possible strikes if the pay talks break down again.
Yesterday's settlement for the secondary schools principals delivered an average pay rise of 5 percent across two years, though the exact rate would depend on individual experience.
Secondary Principals' Council chairwoman Julia Davidson said she hoped an offer that similarly recognised the work secondary teachers did would be successful in getting secondary teachers back to the bargaining table.
