The Christmas Cheer Appeal is set for a big boost of cash and gifts in the wake of tonight's big Napier Mitre 10 Ladies Night being declared "sold out".
Mitre 10 marketing manager Kerry Meehan said: "We have had a big response to registrations for it and all 900 tickets have already been snapped up, so unfortunately there will be no walk-up entry."
While that may be disappointing for some who wanted to get along, it is set to be good news for the appeal, which the Ladies Night event has been an annual supporter of. Part of the event package is that those attending make a gold coin donation, or drop off a toy or a book for the appeal. Ms Meehan said they'll "be looking at the same this year." As well, the store will be putting out donation tins at the check-outs which will stay in place until it all wraps up on December 15, and last year the result was a ripper - some $5000 was taken in. Ms Meehan said the Ladies Night events had grown through the years and Mitre 10 was keen to put something back into the community and the Christmas Cheer Appeal fitted the bill nicely.
Along with a string of DIY clinics being staged, from repairing holes in walls to basic car maintenance, there will also be a special Christmas recipes presentation from celebrity chef Jax Hamilton.
Anyone wanting to do their bit for the appeal can make a cash donation, or drop off toys, gifts and books to any one of the drop-off points.
