A group of women of all sizes, shapes and ages are back riding bikes, some for the first time since they were at school.
The Ladies Social Cycling Group came about after Roz Chadwick, Marie Hutchinson, Angela Healey and Donna Outram saw a need for a non-competitive cycling group.
Rene Eales, a certified mountain biking coach, recently put the ladies through a series of riding exercises designed to redevelop skills and knowledge that assist cyclists' confidence, safety awareness and overall enjoyment of non-competitive 'share with care' paths and rail trail style cycling. This was the first of four refresher coaching sessions being held this month at Melville Park.
Gaylene Davison, a competent cyclist, said she "learned quite a lot from coach Rene" who demonstrated best gear changing, safe braking techniques, down hill riding, balance, straight riding when distracted and more.
Using games and obstacles, the ladies were able to practice what they were learning.
