One person in every hundred will be an epileptic - and that is a worldwide situation, not just a Kiwi statistic.
A display in Hamilton Central Library has this week set out to raise awareness of epilepsy in our society, what is being done to manage it and increase acceptance of the condition.
Maria Lowe was appointed Hamilton epilepsy advisor for the Epilepsy Waikato Charitable Trust. She will provide advice to people with epilepsy and their families, and co-ordinate activities and group support through EWCT's Epilepsy Club. With no premises, the club meets at cafes and coffee bars around the city.
She also provides informative talks and workshops to groups and organisations including schools, clubs and community groups.
Maria has experience as an epilepsy advisor and is looking forward to her role.
