Waikato Police investigating a fatal collision between a car and a truck and trailer unit on Friday faced several challenges in notifying the deceased's family.
Sergeant Jared Thompson, of the Thames Police, said they were obliged to notify next of kin and immediate family of any tragedy before that person's name was released to the public but when a dead person's relatives are dispersed throughout the globe it can be difficult.
Waikato District road policing manager, Inspector Leo Tooman, said the woman was 20-year-old Felicity Paige Wren, of Dunedin.
"Miss Wren was a front seat passenger in a southbound Alfa Romeo that collided into the rear of a slowing truck and trailer unit travelling in the same direction on SH27 south of Morrinsville.
"The truck and trailer unit had slowed as it approached a school bus that was slowing to turn right on to Otane Rd. Reports the car Miss Wren was travelling in was heading to Auckland are incorrect as all vehicles involved in the crash were heading south."
