Christian Heritage Party leader the Rev Graham Capill is described as making good progress in hospital after suffering a heart attack.
Mr Capill is in Christchurch Hospital's coronary care unit.
Party President Bob Pierson says they expect the leader to make a full recovery.
He says Mr Capill has been put on medication and is responding well, but is likely to have to rest for up to four weeks.
Mr Pierson says party officials are meeting tonight to discuss how they will operate in Mr Capill's absence.
