Canterbury University has been given a big "A" for its research accomplishments.
The university's "strong" research culture has been praised as clearly evident by the Academic Audit Unit.
The audit unit report, released this afternoon, makes special mention of the university's research culture, its thriving inter-discliplinary research centres and its efforts to promote and monitor the links between teaching a research.
Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor Bob Kirk said he was delighted with the report and its commendations.
A panel of six spent three days at the university in late October last year investigating two themes - research, and library and information technology.
While research is being studied at all universities in this cycle of audits, library and information technology was Canterbury's choice for a second theme.
The report draws attention to areas where further work is needed in aspects of the resourcing and supervision of post graduate students.
The panel notes Canterbury first raised these issues in its self-audit report and the university is commended for moving promptly to address these issues, even before the audit was completed.
The university's arrangements with other universities to cross check the intellectual standard of its post graduate degrees was also commended by the panel.
