The second place yacht in the Race, Innovation Explorer, arrived in Marseilles early this morning.
Skipper Loick Peyron and his crew finished the round-the-world race two days behind the winning yacht, Club Med, skippered by New Zealand's Grant Dalton.
The circumnavigation took Innovation Explorer just under 65 days. It averaged a faster speed than Club Med - 18.45 knots to Club Med's 18.33 knots – but Dalton's route around the globe was more direct.
Peyron said he and his crew may have made some mistakes during the Race because "we arrived two days behind the leader."
"But in order to have a first place, you have to have a second; and in order to have a brilliant winner, you have to have a brilliant runner-up," he said.
Dalton and his crew took Club Med - sister ship to Innovation Explorer - out this morning to welcome its rival, flying a giant banner with the words "Well done!" written on it.
Third place yacht Team Adventure still has 5000 nautical miles to reach the finish line.
