A New Plymouth church was packed yesterday for the funeral of schoolgirl Angie Webster, aged 15, who died while waiting for heart surgery.
Angie had tachycardia, an abnormally fast heart rhythm.
Her mother, Margaret Webster, went public last month in an attempt to get faster treatment after being told her daughter could wait 12 to 18 months for corrective surgery at Waikato Hospital.
This week, Mrs Webster blamed the health system for Angie's death and said she would complain to the Health and Disability Commissioner.
After Angie's death, both her doctor and heart specialist told Mrs Webster they had no idea that her condition was so serious.
The congregation at St Mary's Pro Cathedral was told the funeral was held there because that was where Angie had wanted to be married.
On Wednesday, Waikato Hospital announced that it would increase the number of operations it performs on Taranaki people with Angie's condition.
The operation is not performed at Taranaki Base Hospital.
