Rihanna surprised the audience at Coachella Festival with an onstage appearance during Calvin Harris' star-filled headline set on Sunday.

The pop star was spotted enjoying the music with her onetime rumoured boyfriend Leonardo DiCaprio at the annual California event over the weekend but it appears the singer wasn't just there for pleasure - she took to the stage during Calvin's closing set on Sunday night to sing their 2011 hit We Found Love.

The Scottish DJ sent the crowd wild when he introduced her, and Rihanna, wearing a tasselled red, white and a blue jacket told crowd, "Coachella, what the f**k is that!", according to Billboard.com.

Calvin's surprise appearances did not stop there. He also brought out Big Sean for a performance of their song Open Wide, and British singer/songwriter John Newman for their track Blame.

Calvin's girlfriend Taylor Swift was in the audience and posted a video on social media of her singing and dancing in the crowd with friends during We Found Love. She spins the camera to show Lorde, Empire actress Serayah, Fifth Harmony star Camila Cabello and members of the band Haim surrounding her.

In the caption, she writes, "I'll NEVER forget this moment... SO INCREDIBLE!!" Taylor was previously spotted during three-day event, but jetted to San Antonio, Texas on Saturday to attend her backing singer Eliotte Nicole's wedding and back to the festival on Sunday.

Rihanna, who was first linked to Leonardo last year, was pictured trying to keep a low profile with the actor at the Neon Carnival after-hours party on Saturday by wearing oversized sunglasses as he wore a baseball cap and handkerchief tied around his neck.
