They earned him a fortune estimated at £60 million (NZ$119m), but Daniel Radcliffe is still able to be critical of his Harry Potter film performances - even hating one of them.

Radcliffe, 25, who played the schoolboy wizard in eight films from the age of 11, told the Mail on Sunday the role was a "blessing" but bemoaned: "The moments I'm not as proud of, mistakes other actors get to make in rehearsal rooms or at drama school, are all on film for everyone to see."

The English actor, who has branched out into stage, screen and television roles since the end of the series in 2011, said he hated watching the sixth film, Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince, because he was "very one-note" and "complacent".

He told the newspaper: "I never liked watching myself on film but I do make myself sit through it. I think it comes from not actually realising I didn't have to go to my own premieres and watch the film - that's something I've only just realised you don't have to do.

"I always went along and sat with everyone else watching the movie.

"And that's why it's hard to watch a film like Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince, because I'm just not very good in it. I hate it. My acting is very one-note and I can see I got complacent and what I was trying to do just didn't come across.

"My best film is the fifth one (Order Of The Phoenix) because I can see a progression."

The former child star is in cinemas later this month in What If, in which he plays a medical student who forms a strong bond with a girl who is already in a relationship with another man.

Having hit the headlines for stripping off on stage at the age of just 17, the comedy sees Radcliffe shed his clothes again, this time for a naked swim in Lake Ontario with co-star Zoe Kazan.
