Lorde's album Pure Heroine has sold more than a million copies in the United States, making her the first woman to reach the milestone with a debut album since Adele.
Pure Heroine has not left the top 20 of the Billboard 200 chart since it debuted in October 2013. Last week it sold 30,000 copies, taking total sales to 1.01 million and hitting the platinum mark in the process, according to Billboard.
The last woman to achieve one million sales with a debut album was Adele and her album 19, in April 2011.
Last year there were just 13 albums that sold a million copies, with Beyonce's self-titled, surprise album the only one by a female artist.
Lorde starts her American tour this week.
