Oasis reunion? Nope, just a Definitely Maybe reissue

Oasis will make a special announcement tonight.
Oasis will make a special announcement tonight.

Oasis kicked the reunion rumour mill back into gear last night after posting a teaser video appeared on the band's Facebook page' target='_blank'>on Facebook and Instagram simply stating a date, '26 Feb', and a time, '9am'.

However, the announcement turned out to be a remastered version of their seminal album Definitely Maybe.

A three-disc special edition of the record, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, will be released on May 19 alongside the usual CD and LP versions, featuring rare recordings and demos.

Among the bonus content comes previously unheard acoustic versions of tracks Live Forever and Shakemaker, an early demo of Half The World Away recorded in a Tokyo hotel room and a demo of rarity Strange Thing.

The post was initially met with cries of "Please let this be a reunion!" from fans, though the one saying "If it's just a 'remastered album' we riot" turned out to be closer to the truth.

The six-second video, consisting of a montage of shots of the band, was followed up by a qualifying picture of a Definitely Maybe vinyl, so the signs of a re-issue were there.

Fans were hoping that Oasis would follow in the footsteps of hip-hop duo Outkast, who reformed earlier this year in celebration of the 20th anniversary of their breakthrough album, Southernplaylistcadillacmuzik.

Frontman Liam Gallagher, who has recently been busy touring with his band Beady Eye, previously hinted at a reunion saying Oasis had "unfinished business" and suggesting they could "bury the hatchet for a quick lap of honour", though his brother Noel has always been more sceptical.

Reformation rumours were strengthened by the news that Beady Eye have been removed from the Coachella line-up though, supposedly paving the way for an Oasis performance.
