Lady Gaga was hit in the head by a metal pole during her last New Zealand show, giving the pop star concussion.

The singer was performing the song Judas about halfway through her Vector Arena show in Auckland when a large metal pole fell and hit her on the head.

Video clips posted on YouTube show a backup performer striking Gaga with the set prop while removing it from the central stage.

Gaga, holding a mock machinegun, staggers and rubs her head before briefly leaving the stage. At the time, she promised fans the show would go on. reported the singer as saying: "I want to apologise. I did hit my head and I think I may have a concussion. But don't you worry, I will finish this show."

Gaga's makeup artist Tara Savelo wrote yesterday on Twitter: "Gaga has a concussion but she is going to be okay ... can't believe she finished the show."

Gaga performed three New Zealand shows. She is now in Australia.
