A musician who was hospitalised after crowd surfing at Sydney's Big Day Out festival has been identified as Adam Montgomery, bassist for the band Calling All Cars.

The performer was one of five people taken to hospital during the annual music festival at Sydney's Olympic Park on Australia Day.

A festival spokeswoman said Montgomery was elbowed in the head and is recovering in hospital.

The other four people hospitalised suffered minor injuries or were hospitalised due to intoxication.
