Noel Gallagher is reportedly in talks to judge the US version of The X Factor.

Music mogul Simon Cowell is said to be keen on upstaging his former show American Idol - who now have Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler on the judging panel - by getting a big British rock star to appear on his new show.

He is a big fan of the ex-Oasis star and is keen to get him on board and has also laid down an offer to Rolling Stones singer Sir Mick Jagger.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Simon wants to go one better than American Idol, who have Steve Tyler, and has set his heart on British rock 'n' roll royalty - with Noel and Mick top of his shopping list.

"Noel's manager met up for early talks and there is serious money on offer.

"Simon is a huge fan of Noel's songwriting and the no-nonsense attitude Oasis brought to Britpop in the 90s. He'd be great to dish out feedback."

However, the 43-year-old rocker is not thought to be keen to work on The X Factor and has previously rejected offers to have an Oasis night on the UK version of the show.

However, Noel did allow Leona Lewis - who was crowned the winner of the British series in 2006 - to record a version of his former group's 2002 hit Stop Crying Your Heart Out and has allowed pop hopefuls perform Oasis songs on the lives shows.

The Wonderwall songwriter - who quit the band in August 2009 - is currently working on his debut solo album, while his brother Liam Gallagher's new band Beady Eye release their first LP Different Gear, Still Speeding in February.
